Balenciaga
Balenciaga, renowned for his disdain for the press, defiantly departed from conventional fashion practices in 1956, withdrawing from the Chambre Syndicale system to combat American copyists.
He introduced ground-breaking silhouettes like the 'sack dress', reshaping women's fashion during the 1950s. Originally launching his fashion venture in 1917 under the name Elisa, a tribute to his mother's maiden name, he expanded to Madrid in the 1920s before relocating to Paris in 1937 amidst the Spanish Civil War.
There, he established a prestigious couture house on Avenue Georges V, swiftly becoming synonymous with exclusivity in the fashion capital. Balenciaga's meticulous attention to detail and innovative designs solidified his legacy as a pioneer of modern fashion.
