Timed auctions
What is a Timed Auction?
A timed auction closely resembles a traditional live auction but without a live auctioneer. Typically spanning a two-week period, this extended timeframe offers participants the flexibility to revise their bids should their initial highest bid be surpassed. In such cases, bidders receive notifications, enabling them to re-enter the bidding.
Registration:
To participate, you must first create a Fellows account. If you encounter any difficulties accessing a computer, we can assist in registering on your behalf and keep you informed of your progress throughout the auction.
You will need to register separately for each auction and be approved to bid. Once you have been approved, you should be automatically approved for all future auction registrations.
Bidding:
Once you've successfully registered and accepted the terms and conditions, you will be able to monitor the remaining time left for bidding on each item. You do not have to wait until the day of the auction; you can place bids on your desired items as soon as the catalogue becomes available. To stay updated on upcoming auctions, be sure to subscribe to our auction alerts.
Notifications:
When you submit a bid, you will receive an email notifying you of whether you are currently the highest bidder or if you have been outbid. By entering your bid amount, you are indicating the maximum amount you are willing to bid for that specific item. Fellows Live will automatically place bids on your behalf, ensuring you remain the frontrunner until your maximum amount is reached.
On the website, you will be able to see the status of each item you have bid on. Notifications will appear in green if you hold the current winning bid and in red if you have been outbid.
Reviewing Your Bids:
All your current bids can be conveniently accessed through your My Fellows account. This section will also display items you have either won or lost, as well as your current winning or losing status for desired items.
Closing Day:
On the final day of the auction, each lot will close consecutively every 30 seconds, starting with Lot 1, at the specified time. If a bid is placed within the last 30 seconds of an item's closing time, the time for that item will extend. Once the time expires, the item will be moved to the "Finished Lots" section, and the next lot will commence closing. This process continues until all lots are closed, concluding the auction.
Live auctions
A traditional auction format where participants can place bids in person, via telephone, or through our proprietary bidding platform, Fellows Live, or external bidding platforms.
Registration:
To participate, you must first create a Fellows account. If you encounter any difficulties accessing a computer, we can assist in registering on your behalf and keep you informed of your progress throughout the auction.
You will need to register separately for each auction and be approved to bid. Once you have been approved once, you should be automatically approved for all future auctions.
Bidding:
Once you've successfully registered and accepted the terms and conditions, you will be able to monitor the remaining time left for bidding on each item as well as bid in real time on the live auction day. You do not have to wait until the day of the auction; you can place bids on your desired items as soon as the catalogue becomes available. At Fellows, we provide four distinct methods for bidding:
In person
Bidding via our website
Telephone Bidding on the day of the auction
Live Online Bidding
In-Person Bidding at Augusta House Saleroom:
Experience the thrill of live auctions by bidding in person at our Augusta House Saleroom. Visitors from the UK and around the world are welcomed to our location in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter. To participate, you'll need to present a form of identification such as your driver's license or passport to receive a paddle number. Once the auction begins, take your seat, and the auctioneer will announce the bidding increments for each lot. If you wish to bid on an item, simply raise your hand or paddle.
Bids via Our Website:
If you can't attend the auction in person or prefer not to bid in real-time, you can leave absentee bids on our website. You can set your maximum bid amount, and Fellows will bid on your behalf up to that limit. When you submit a bid, you will receive an email notifying you whether you are currently the highest bidder or if you have been outbid.
Telephone Bidding on Auction Day:
Telephone bidding allows you to have a direct conversation with one of our staff members in the saleroom. Your operator will relay the auctioneer's bids to you, and, upon your instruction, place bids on your behalf. You can request this service online in the same way as submitting an absentee bid or call us 0121 212 2131.
Real-time Online Bidding:
With Fellows Live, you can participate in auctions and enjoy a dynamic auction experience, all from the comfort of your chosen location. Our free online bidding platform includes live audio and video streams, allowing you to watch the auction as it unfolds in real-time. Using Fellows Live, you can monitor the source of opposing bids as they are submitted. No additional online bidding fees apply when using Fellows Live.
