Bernard Instone
Bernard Instone rose to prominence as a leading designer of contemporary jewellery during the 1920s. Renowned for his innovative designs, Instone's silver gem jewels are renowned for their homage to nature and its myriad hues. Incorporating pearls, amethysts, citrines, moonstones, and chrysoprase stones, he intricately weaves them with silver leaf and floral motifs.
His creations range from ornate necklaces and bracelets resembling intertwined vine leaves and berries to pieces adorned with delicate enamel work, featuring floral motifs reminiscent of forget-me-nots and lily of the valley.
Despite their stylized simplicity, these designs effectively showcase the beauty of the stones or enamel. Notably, they exhibit a clear connection to the softer aesthetics of the Arts and Crafts movement, in contrast to the contemporaneous Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles.
