Boivin
René Boivin was born in February 1864 in Paris. He was an excellent designer and engraver. He began a career in the jewellery field at young age of 17.
During the 1890s he purchased several workshops and established himself at rue St. Anastase. In 1893 he married Jeanne Poiret, sister of the famous couturier Jean Poiret.
While their business was gaining momentum, René and his son Pierre went to war to defend France in WWI. Both died at war in 1917.
Rather than closing the business after their deaths, his wife Jeanne made the unlikely choice to keep operations running and carry on as head of the firm, while keeping René's name on the company.
A beautiful René Boivin necklace was included in the Fine Jewellery Auction at Fellows in May 2022. With an estimate of £2,000 - £3,000, the black enamel silver necklace included Art Deco turquoise and rock crystal.
