Breitling
Leon Breitling crafted timepieces and measuring tools from his workshop in St. Imier, Switzerland from the 1880s onwards. He was always fascinated by and therefore focussed on chronographs and timing instruments.
Throughout the 1880s chronographs were increasingly in demand for industrial, military and scientific reasons.
In 1914, following Leon’s death, his son Gaston took over the family business. Over the following years Gaston Breitling continued to develop the business and created some of the first chronograph wrist watches.
1952 saw the debut of one of the most iconic and sought after watches know to the watch world – the Breitling Navitimer was launched. This watch pairs “navigation” with “timing” together making this watch the first choice for pilots, airlines and aircraft manufacturers, even to this day.
Some of the most well known models include:
- Navitimer – the ultimate pilot’s watch and symbolic of the whole Breitling brand.
- Chronomat – the flagship line of watches with several subcatergories evoloving through the years, including the Blackbird, Chrono-Matic and the Evolution.
- Top Time – more of a vintage watch, first seen in the mid-1960s as a watch for young men. Nowadays it is a popular choice for anyone with a passion for vintage watches.
