Dunhill
Alfred Dunhill Limited traces its origins to Alfred Dunhill (1872–1959), who assumed control of his father's saddlery business on London's Euston Road at the age of 21 in 1893. Initially focusing on automobile accessories under the brand "Dunhill's Motorities," the company offered a comprehensive range of products including car horns, lamps, leather overcoats, goggles, picnic sets, and timepieces, earning the tagline "Everything But The Motor."
Transitioning towards luxury goods, Dunhill expanded its presence with the establishment of two Dunhill Motorities stores in Mayfair shortly thereafter. Noteworthy innovations included the patented "Windshield Pipe" in 1904, designed to facilitate smoking while driving. In 1907, the company ventured into the tobacconist and pipe business with the opening of its first shop on Duke Street.
Alfred Dunhill retired from active involvement in the business during the 1920s, passing the mantle of managing director and president to his brother Alfred-Henry, followed by his daughter Mary, and ultimately his grandson Richard.
