Frank Gehry
Drawing inspiration from his renowned architectural motifs, such as the 'Fish' motif prominently displayed in structures like 'El Peix' in Port Olímpic, Barcelona, Frank Gehry crafted a series of necklaces featuring multiple fish forms rendered in silver, wood, and nephrite jade.
Additionally, he skilfully balanced a jumping silver fish atop a band ring, showcasing his ability to translate architectural elements into wearable art.
In parallel, Gehry's 'Torque' and 'Fold' collections translate the architectural concept of creased folds into angular bangles and rings, echoing the aesthetic of buildings enveloped in swathes of metal sheets.
Gehry's architectural style, characterized by its intricate interplay of straight and curved walls, finds expression in his jewellery collections for Tiffany & Co.
The 'Equus' pendants exhibit freeform, curved shapes, while the 'Orchid' pendants and earrings feature spirals, offering a contrast to the layered abstract shapes of sheet metal found in his 'Leaves' collection, where the undulating curves evoke the essence of autumnal foliage.
A ‘Torque’ ring, designed by Frank Gehry, for Tiffany & Co. Sold for £364 in our Fine Jewellery auction on 6/10/22. Gehry’s collections for Tiffany & Co. are no longer in production, so collectors must now look to the secondary market to find these miniature pieces of architecture.
