Georg Jensen
Georg Jensen, a renowned silversmith, established his company in 1904, creating a diverse range of products from jewellery to homewares. His designs significantly influenced an era of Scandinavian design, characterized by clean lines and simplistic elegance.
Since Jensen's passing in 1935, his company has continued to produce designs that embody his original vision. Headquartered in Frederiksberg, Denmark, the company is widely recognized for its contemporary silver work, sought after by collectors worldwide.
The versatility of Scandinavian pieces extends to furniture, silverware, and watches, all bearing the hallmark of Jensen's design aesthetic.
A bespoke Georg Jensen sale held at Fellows in June 2017 showcased the designer's impeccable craftsmanship across furniture, jewellery, and silverware, attracting considerable attention at auction.
Jensen's ability to merge fine art with crafts is exemplified in iconic pieces such as the Louvre footed bowl. Named after the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at Musée du Louvre in Paris, where it was acquired in 1914. This bowl features twelve individual leaves and twenty-four beads meticulously soldered onto the base. Sold for £1,500, the bowl showcases Jensen's mastery, appearing weightless with minimal hammered marks.
