Kutchinsky
Kutchinsky was founded in 1893 by Hirsch Kutchinksy, after he fled Poland with his family, setting up shop in London. Influenced by the end of the war, the jewellery crafted in the late 40s and 50s was by Kutchinsky’s grandchildren. It was deliberately flamboyant in design to celebrate the countries triumph.
Using both diamonds and coloured gemstones elaborately, they also created adorable brooches designed as animals. The Kutchinsky name is now heavily recognised for this. The first half of the 20th century saw the Commercial Road shop become a hub for extraordinary and original jewellery.
What really stands out about Kutchinsky’s creations from this era is their attention to craftsmanship, the beautifully textured gold metalwork with the use of large and colourful gemstones and diamonds to create eye-catching statement pieces. Into the 1960’s, designs were bold and ostentatious, with more emphasis on colourful precious and semi-precious gemstones such as turquoise, corals and bright enamels, often taking the form of playful and creative animal brooches and bracelets that are highly sought-after by collectors today.
Post World War Two Jewellery
The company relocated to the Knightsbridge area in the 1950s to keep ahead of the game post World War Two. The expert attention to detail in Kutchinsky's pieces has continued for decades. Since then, items from the sixties and seventies remain highly coveted.
Kutchinsky jewellery regularly features in the Fine Jewellery auction at Fellows. The auction showcases the best jewels Fellows has to offer. Jewellery from the brand, including beautiful animal designs, necklaces, and bracelets, have gone under the hammer.
