Lalaounis

Ilias Lalaounis, a prominent modern European goldsmith, is known for his distinctive style featuring high carat gold and designs inspired by Greek and Byzantine art. He viewed jewellery as a medium for storytelling, connecting wearers to ancient history.

As a fourth-generation jeweller, Lalaounis shifted from retailing to design, debuting in 1957 with pieces influenced by ancient Hellenic art. By the late 1960s, he established his own company and became a leader in goldsmithing and jewellery design, expanding globally in the 1970s and 1980s.

In 1984, Lalaounis published "Metamorphoses," a celebrated book on his art. His museum, opened in the early 1990s, showcases his collections from the 1940s to the early 1990s.

Lalaounis's creations, blending antiquity with modern styles, convey more than decoration; they tell a story and bridge the wearer with history.
