Omega
Arguably the most renowned watch maker in the world, crafting some of the most instantly recognisable and iconic wrist watches known in the current watch market. The inextricable link to the “007” franchise in more recent years has helped the brand evolve further.
Founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland in 1848, the family company was taken over by his sons in 1879 and continued to create and supply watches for a small but global market.
Omega has continued to maintain its position as one of the best watch makers on the world stage for many different reasons.
Omega are the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, since being invited to carry out the job in 1932 in Los Angeles.
The brand crafted the first watch that was worn in space and on the moon. An Omega Speedmaster was worn on the wrist of Buzz Aldrin in 1969 when man first walked on the moon. This model also helped the astronauts of the Apollo 13 mission return home safely. Whilst also being part of the Dirty Dozen, Omega is truly incredible.
Since the 1990s Omega has been the choice of British secret agent James Bond who favours the Seamaster model.
It is also important to mention the relationship between Omega and English watch maker George Daniels. Daniels created the Co-Axial escapement used in many of the current models produced by Omega. This Co-Axial escapement allows for more accurate timekeeping and a longer period between services.
