Lot Description

A Second World War chrome plated brass German military issue Tutima chronograph wrist watch by Glashutte, circa 1940, the matt black dial with luminous Arabic numerals surrounded by outer minute divisions and marked with the Tutima "T" above signature, subsidiary minute recorder and seconds dials to three and nine o'clock respectively, tonneau shaped case fitted with a milled bezel and integral lugs, chronograph start/stop and reset pushers flank the winding to the three o'clock case edge, screw fit case back is numbered 208366, the movement with German regulation and pillar wheel governed chrono work numbered 208366. Case diameter 39mm.

The Glashutte Tutima double push piece chronograph was manufactured in the late 1930's with the intention that it be used by pilots of the Luftwaffe, hence the lack of any obvious issue mark. This example would originally have had a bright red reset pusher at four o'clock, so coloured to prevent confusion and accidental use.

Brand: Glashutte Original

Model no.: TUTIMA CHRONOGRAP

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Glashutte wrist watch, movement functions intermittently and shows obvious dirt and debris and would benefit from an overhaul. Lower red reset pusher is absent and requires replacing. Case is heavily scratched and scuffed from wear with a great deal of the chrome plating lost and showing the brass metal beneath, there are some deeper dints and nicks in several locations around the case back side of the band possibly caused by past attempts to open with a case knife which may be difficult to remove. We cannot guarantee whether the crown and remaining pusher are original. Dial is in very good condition respective of age and purpose, there is discolouration to the luminous paint and some marks to the black dial background around the far edges only visible when the movement is out of the case, hands are all present and in fair condition with some chipping to the paint work. Plastic glass is badly scratched and cracked and would benefit from being replaced.
