Condition Report
The enamelled box is in very good condition commensurate with age and use with general marks, scratches and tarnishing to the whole. The silver is beginning to see some discoloration and would benefit from a polish. The enamel work is in very good condition and the depiction of the owl is quite crude as intended by the style. The colours remain vivid and clearly show the transience from light to dark in the skyline. There are a few light scratches with can be seen through close inspection under the enamel layer but no chips to the surface. The seam where the enamel work meets the silver casing is neat and tidy. The inside of the box is in excellent condition with minor wear to the lid and gilt interior. The engraved inscription on the base of the bowl reads 'Til Sir Arthur OG Lady Herbert Fra Venner I Norge 1905 - 1911' and is clear and crisp. The Maker's mark reads 'David Anderson CHRISTIANIA' which is clear and legible (NB The mark Christiania means refers to the item as being hallmarked in this region). Hallmark reads '925' followed by a succession of symbols, designer marks and initials which refer to the designer. The fitted case is in fair condition externally with general scratches, marks and stains to the whole as well as some ware along resting points. Internally the box shows evidence of some fraying along hinged areas as well as some stains to the silk.
