Lot Description

George III silver cream jug with embossed banded decoration and reeded decoration, engraved heraldic engravings. Hallmarked Edinburgh probably 1801, maker possibly James Dempster. Height measures 4 1/4 inches (11 cm), weight 4.7 ozt (147 grams).

The cream jug shows noticeable wear and tear, there are general scratches, marks and tarnishing, along with numerous dents, and dints. There has been a repair to the bottom join of the handle with a large amount of visible solder visible to the position to the inside, there is also a second repair below a very rubbed Heraldic engraving visible as a run of solder and a tear to the inside. The hallmarks are very rubbed, but legible as described in the description.
