Lot Description
A gilt metal pendant commemorating the life of Robert Devereux, 3rd Earl of Essex (1591-1646) - the Captain General of the Roundhead Army prior to the ascendancy of Oliver Cromwell. The front of the pendant bears a raised image of Robert Devereux holding a sword in his right hand with a two tier border carrying the legend 'Pro Religione Lege Rege et Parliamento' and 'For true religion and subjects fredom flame should hear both houses of Parliament'. The reverse displays an image of the interior of the Houses of Parliament with Members seated. Measures 3.71cms long by 2.72cms.
