Lot 244

Lot Description

A Victorian Archaeological Revival style brooch, circa 1860, of circular design with overlaid monogram and cross motif, cannetille decoration and outer rope border. Diameter of brooch 4.3cms, weight 12.00gms.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The brooch is in good condition in keeping with age and use. Displaying minor scratches to the surface along with some general tarnishing and light discolouration to the reverse. The cannetille and rope decoration has retained a fine level of detail, under 10 X magnification one can see some wear to the decoration, possibly as made in order to recreate a distressed appearance. The pin is possibly a later addition, evident from the modern clasp.
