Lot Description

Late Victorian silver hip flask of rectangular form and rounded shoulders, two crests and stylised initials engraved to the font upper body, the lower body with detachable cup with gilt interior and the hinged lid with locking mechanism. Both parts are hallmarked Sampson Mordant Co., London 1892. Height measures approximately 5 inches (12.5 cm). Gross weight 5.66 ozt (176.05 grams).

The hip flask is in a fair condition with surface wear and tear scratches commensurate to the age of the piece. There are noticeable dints to the whole of the piece the deepest been one to the top corner and one to the base of the detachable cup. The cup has a fairly bright gilt interior but would benefit from a clean. The engraving is in very good condition showing great detail. the screw cap and hinge are in good working order. The solder join is becoming visible. Both corresponding hallmarks are slightly rubbed and tarnished  but legible.
