Lot Description

Early Victorian hinged vinaigrette with engine turned decoration bordered by acanthus leaf detail to the rims, and reeded sides, opening to reveal a gilt interior with hinged grill. Hallmarked Birmingham 1837, with makers mark TS. Length measures 1 1/2 inches (3 cm), weighing 31.4 grams.

The vinaigrette is in a fair condition with tarnish in the recesses, the hinge is in working order and the lid closes flush, the gilt interior is still quite bright. The hinge of the grill is in working order, the grill is hard to lift open, its very tight, resulting in quite a few deeper small scratches and dents to the opening lip, and generally around the rim of the grill. Hallmarks to the lid and base, these are rubbed but legible.
