Lot Description

Two similar silver pedestal twin handled bon bon dishes of oval form with fluted decoration and engraved crest. The larger dish is hallmarked London 1792, the length measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm). The smaller dish is hallmarked Michael Starkey, London 1789. Gross weight 7.64 ozt (237.63).

The dishes differ slightly in the stepping of the spread bases. One dish is slightly larger than the other. Gilding worn/corroded to the inside of both. Armorials rubbed, one being clearer than the other. Hallmarks slightly rubbed but still legible to the side of the base on the later dish, marks very clear under base of earlier dish. Bases slightly distorted with earlier dish being a little uneven on the foot. Tarnish and heavy spotting.
