ROLEX - a bi-colour automatic gentleman's Explorer Date bracelet watch circa 1959, the cream dial with hourly applied batons, date aperture positioned to three o'clock, bordered by a minute track, fluted bezel, tonneau shaped case fitted to an expandable Oyster bracelet with folding clasp, watch reference 5701, case back reference 5700 1 62 5701, serial number 516185, calibre number 1530, movement number 60740. Case width 34mm.

Rolex bracelet watch. The automatic movement is currently functioning. The dial is in good condition with minor marks consistent with the watches age. The most noticeable of these is a mark to the right of the 'Oyster Perpetual' script. The hands are showing signs of tarnishing. The glass has a few marks and small scratches. The most noticeable of these is a small dint to the top edge close to 12 o'clock and a small scratch over the 11 o'clock baton. There is also a minor scuff to the edge of the glass between 9 and 10 o'clock. The case is in good condition, it has some scratches as a result of general wear. The most noticeable of these marks are a small dint to the right hand side of the case above the crown and some small dints to the edge of the top left lug. The bracelet and clasp has some scratches consistent with general wear. Most prominent is a small scuff to second middle link from the top. The clasp has two small scratches which are noticeable. Bracelet measures 19.5cm including case.

date stamped 1 62 which ties in with its case-back date code for the first quarter of 1960. This rare model was made in small batches and the unique case number of this one is fewer than 35 away from one depicted in a famous Rolex book, "The Best of Times" by Dowling & Hess.
