Lot Description

A Victorian shell cameo brooch, of tear drop design depicting Nyx (night), veiled and crowned with a wreath of poppies above an owl with a moon and star to the sky. Length 6.2cms. Weight 7.5gms.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The brooch is in overall good condition. We believed with brooch was originally paired together as earrings. The settings for this cameo have been later adapted to a brooch. Soft solder and tarnishing can be seen to the brooch clap. No major deep fractures can be seen to the shell cameo when held up to the light. It is beautifully carved. The setting seems secure. Light scratches and dents can be seen, general wear and tear.
