Lot Description
A 1920's silver Monteith bowl of classic form with vertical fluting, lion masks and the scalloped rim with mask and swag detail. The body has two engraved cartouche, each of oval form with scale-work and scrolling acanthus leaf surround. Hallmarked Alexander Clark & Co Ltd Birmingham 1927. Diameter measuring 11 inches (28 cm), weight 69.8 ozt (2173 grams).

Condition Report
The Monteith bowl displays wear commensurate with the age and use with general scratches, marks and noticeable tarnishing. The body of the bowl sits slightly lopsided. The ring handles are missing from the lion masks. The date letter is a little rubbed but overall the hallmarks are clear and legible. The engravings read ;
'London Athletic Club, The Voelcker Memorial Trophy, The gift of the club in remembrance of Dr. John Augustus Voelcker. C.I.E 1854-1937, President of the club1914-1918 and 1934.'
'To be awarded annually to the competing member who in the opinion of the general committee renders most service to the club, October - September each year.'
