Lot Description

A pair of George III silver bun top pepper pots, each of urn shape on a spreading circular foot with reeded detail to the lid and foot rim, engraved monogram to the front.  Hallmarked Edinburgh with the duty mark and the standard mark of the thistle, maker believed to be William Marshall (no date letter).  Maximum height measures 3 1/2 inches (9cm), total combined weight 4.04 ozt (125.6 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both pepper pots display general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.

Both have screw on lids, which still screw on tightly.  The monograms on both are rubbed but still legible.

The bun top on one of the lids has a large dent on the top and there is a split in the metal. This pepper also has a noticeable dint to the main body and various other minor dints and pitting.  The foot rim also displays minor dints and is therefore slightly misshapen.

The lid on the other pepper has some damage to the reeded decoration.  It also has some very minor dints and pitting to the main body with some larger, more noticeable dints to the stem of the foot.  The foot rim is also very slightly misshapen.  Hallmarks on both comprise of a duty mark, thistle standard mark and a maker's mark.  They are rubbed but still legible.
