Lot Description
A late Victorian silver pepper pot, the urn shape body with blue glass liner and with pierced and bright cut engraved decoration depicting floral and foliate swags and other motifs, the detachable lid with dome top, the whole on spreading circular foot. Hallmarked Chester 1896. Maximum height measures 4 inches (10cm), weight 1.6 ozt (49.91 grams).

Condition Report
The item displays general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. There is also a little tarnishing. The main body has some dints in the metal and also some wear to the engraved decoration. There are some dints around the base of the stem leading to the foot. A seam line is also visible, mainly on the interior, and there is a pin prick hole along this line. The lid has various dints, mainly to the pierced dome top, which is slightly misshapen. The rim is also slightly misshapen. The main hallmarks are rubbed so that the date letter and maker's mark are partly obscured. The part hallmarks on the lid are clearer.
