Lot 62
Lot Description
An early Victorian silver mug, the cylindrical form with flared rim and scroll handle, the main body engraved with scrolling flowers and foliage around a cartouche containing a crest and initials, with personal inscription to underside dated 1844. Hallmarked William Ker Reid, London 1843(?). Height including handle measures 3 3/4 inches (9.5cm), weight 4.52 ozt (140.75 grams).
Condition Report
The mug appears to be in fairly good condition. There is some general wear and surface marks and scratches. There is a little bit of tarnishing and also some pitting in some areas. The base of the handle appears to be pushed in slightly, which is visible from the interior. There are some minor nicks/dints in the metal and the base rim appears to be very very slightly misshapen on one side. The engraved decoration is generally okay. The underside is inscribed 'From Uncle Wm Allen Pusser 18 March 1844'. The hallmarks and maker's marks are slightly rubbed but still legible.
