Lot Description

George III silver sweetmeat basket of oval form, the body with pierced panels interspaced with floral embossing and twist handle. Hallmarked London 1773 with the makers mark SW possibly for Samuel Wood or Samuel White. Length measuring 6 1/4 inches (16 cm), width measuring 5 inches (13 cm), weight 3.6 ozt (114 grams).

The sweetmeat basket displays wear commensurate with the age and use with general scratches, marks and tarnishing. Remnants of old polish visible to the recesses. The hallmarks to the underside are clear and legible, makers mark partly rubbed. Makers mark identified from Arthur G. Grimwade, London Goldsmiths 1697 - 1837, unregistered marks number 3808.
