A Victorian 18ct gold key wind open face pocket watch by J W Benson of London, the white enamel dial having black Roman numeral hour markers, subsidiary seconds dial to six o'clock, all surrounded by an outer minute track, the case, hallmarked London circa 1874, maker's mark HW, with milled middle, engine turned design with vacant cartouche to rear, presentation inscription to cuvette, numbered 23036, fitted with a signed gilt full plate fusee and chain movement with ratchet tooth lever escapement, numbered 23036. Case diameter 49mm. Watch is missing its second hand and is A/F. Total weight 105.4gms.

Condition Report
Open faced pocket watch, key wind movement is not currently functioning, balance has a broken bottom pivot, movement is dirty with traces of dried oil in the oil sinks, dial loose and dirty with light chips and marks around the edges, there is a hairline crack running from the top of the subsidiary seconds dial, through the central aperture before terminating just before the two o'clock position, there are chips around the centre of the subsidiary seconds dial, the subsidiary seconds hand is missing, the blued finish has been worn away on the minute hand boss and there is tarnishing present to both remaining hands, the hour hand has been opened up crudely, minute hand is distorted, glass is cracked, case is heavily rubbed with scratches, marks and tarnishing as a result of general wear, hinges appear free of excessive play. Pendant button is not functional.
