Lot 316

Lot Description

William IV cased set of silver fish eaters for six place settings, with engraved fruiting vine decoration to the knife blades and below the fork prongs, each with foliate scrolled handle.  Hallmarked William Sansom Sheffield 1835 (handles not hallmarked and ferrules with slightly later hallmarks).  In a fitted velvet lined case.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Each piece displays general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.  There are also some minor nicks in the metal, especially around the edges and remnants of polish in some areas.  The points on the knives still appear to be quite sharp.  There is a possible repair to the ferrule on one of the knives.    On one of the forks there is a gap between the ferrule and the base of the pronged section.  Most of the hallmarks are still clear and legible.
