Lot Description

George III pair of silver sugar tongs made by Hester Bateman, decorated all over with bright cut engraved motifs, hallmarked London (circa 1786-1790);  together with a pair of early Georgian silver sugar nips with scallop shell grips, struck with the standard mark and maker's initial I.G, and a similar Edwardian pair of silver sugar nips, hallmarked Robert James Chaplin & Sons, London 1902.  Gross combined weight 3 ozt (94.3 grams).

All three pairs display general wear, some tarnishing and surface marks and scratches.  The Hester Bateman pair has a slight crease in the metal at the curved end.  The scallop shell grips on the Edwardian pair do not close together properly.  Hallmarks on each are legible.
