Lot 326

Lot Description

Victorian silver bachelor set comprising fork, knife and spoon, each piece with ornately decorated stem and handle modelled with a cherub's head and a serpent amidst foliate scrolls and terminating with the figure of a saint, hallmarked Francis Higgins II, London 1868 (knife 1865), in a fitted case.  Together with a Victorian mother of pearl handled silver pickle fork and a later Victorian silver spoon, also with mother of pearl handle. (5).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

All pieces in the lot display general wear, surface marks and scratches and some tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.   There are also remnants of polish.  In the bachelor set, the prongs on the fork are very bent and worn and the knife blade is now very loose in the handle and can be pulled out completely.  There are various marks to the mother of pearl handles on the other two pieces and on the fork handle there appears to be a piece missing from the end, which has subsequently been filed.  The hallmarks on each piece are generally legible.
