Lot Description

Late Victorian silver and mother of pearl child's rattle, hallmarked Birmingham 1900, maker probably Charles Wilkes;  together with another silver and mother of pearl rattle, a white metal retractable pencil, a large silver plated thimble, a Metropolitan police whistle and a silver plated vesta case. All items in the lot display general wear and surface marks and scratches.  The Victorian rattle is very tarnished and displays various dints in the metal.  Two of the rattle balls are also missing.  The mother of pearl part is loose in the mount.  Hallmarks are legible.  The other rattle displays numerous large and small dints in the metal and is therefore misshapen, it is also very tarnished.  Hallmarks are partly obscured but still legible.  The whistle displays a number of deeper scratches and dints.  The thimble is quite tarnished.  The hinged lid on the vesta case is in good working order, however the plating is coming away in places.
