Lot Description

Victorian silver christening mug of straight sided cylindrical form, decorated with two floral and foliate embossed circular cartouche in between a vacant cartouche and another containing an engraved monogram and date, the whole with beaded rims and beaded scroll handle.  Hallmarked Richards & Brown (Edward Charles Brown), London 1868.  Height including handle measures 3 1/4 inches (8.5cm), weight 3 ozt (95 grams).

The item displays general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age.  It is also quite tarnished all over.  There are some minor nicks and also some small dints, especially around the foot rim.  There are several small dints visible on the underside of the mug.  The main rim is also very slightly misshapen.  Hallmarks are slightly rubbed but still clear and legible.  It is also stamped 1851 to the underside.
