Lot 55

Lot Description

George III set of ten silver dinner plates, each of circular form with a raised shaped rim embossed with wheat ear and floral motifs in between rope twist decoration, engraved with two matching armorials to the inner border.  Hallmarked William & John Frisbee London 1811 (some appear to be marked WF over JF and others WF over IF). Diameter measures 10 inches (25.5cm), gross approximate weight 193.51 ozt (6018.7 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Each plate displays general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.  The scratches are more visible to the centre of each plate and also to the underside and some of these scratches are longer and deeper.  There are also various nicks in the metal all over.  One of the plates has a small horizontal hole measuring approximately 5mm in length in between the main plate and the embossed rim.  The decoration on each is generally okay, as are the engraved crests.  Hallmarks are generally clear and legible but most of the maker's marks are partly obscured.  Each plate also bears the scratch weight to the reverse.
