Art Nouveau silver sweetmeat basket.

Lot Description
Victorian Art Nouveau silver swing handle sweetmeat basket of oval form with floral embossing amongst whiplash scrolls and pierced rim. Hallmarked Henry Matthews Birmingham 1894. Length measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), weight 3 ozt (94 grams).

Condition Report
Basket displays general wear, tarnishing and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age. There are a couple of splits in the metal, most notably near to the handle on one side. One of the feet is slightly more upright than the other three so that the dish wobbles slightly when standing. Hinges on the swing handle are in good working order. Hallmarks are to the underside and are a little worn and rubbed but still legible, also part hallmarks to the embossed handle.
