A Victorian diamond and ruby brooch, circa 1870. The old-cut diamond within a circular-shape ruby and old-cut diamond surround, with a detachable suspended old-cut diamond drop, may be worn as a brooch. Estimated central diamond weight 2.45cts, I-J colour, SI1-SI2 clarity. Estimated total weight of diamond surround 6.12cts , I/J colour, VS2-P2 clarity. Estimated weight of diamond drop 2.74cts, I/J colour, SI1-SI2 clarity. Length 5cms. Weight 20.30gms. With associated case.

Condition Report
The diamond and ruby brooch is in overall good condition. The diamonds are bright and lively. Nicks and small chips can be seen to the central diamond. The diamond drop also has a small nick to the girdle. It may deteriorate with a heavy bang. Small scattered inclusions can be seen under magnification under the table facet. Fire fractures and inclusions can be seen within the diamond surround. Some fractures are running through the stones. One is surface reaching. Chips and nibbles can also be seen to the girdle edges of these stones. The rubies have a red to pinkish red hue. One has a deeper hue compared to the others. Light nicks and chips can be seen to the rubies. Minor scuffs can be seen to the brooch, in keeping with age. All settings will need attention, as several of the claws have worn thin.
