Lot Description

An early 19th century woven seed pearl mourning brooch. The rectangular-shape woven hair panel within a woven seed pearl surround. AF. Personal inscription to reverse reads 'Wm Smith ob 23 March 1812 at 62'. Length 3.6cms. See Plate 5.

The lot is in overall fair condition, there are slight scratches in keeping with general wear. A section of woven seed pearl are missing to the one corner of the piece and would need to be replaced, some seed pearls may also need to be secured. There are some indentations and areas of discolouration to the collet of the woven hair panel and back. The pin and catch is secure. There is some damage to the mother of pearl frame, where it has cracked. Weight 6.1gms.
