Two Japanese Meiji period white metal, ivory and Shibyama vases. The first of ovoid form with waisted twelve-lobed neck, enamelled to the lower neck and shoulders, the ivory body (cracked) with Shibayama decoration in mother-of-pearl, abalone, jade, coconut shell and coral, of a perched sparrow and a butterfly hovering over plants, between white metal dragon handles, raised on four enamelled white metal supports, 5.75", (14cm) high, the second of ovoid jar form, the domed enamelled cover surmounted by a pheasant (detached but present), the ivory body with floral sprays (losses) between white metal dragon handles, on enamelled supports, 5", (13cm) high, each piece with two-character mark beneath, (both at fault), (2)

Condition Report
1. Slight undulation to neck. A dint below frilled rim. One dragon detached but present. Body has a wide full-length split where dragon would attach. Two shibayama flowers missing. Butterfly detached but present. Enamel losses to foot. Overall - to restore.
2. Bird to cover detached at feet. Flowers and a bird missing to shibayama. Two short cracks to body.
