Condition Report
The stretcher is annotated '541' and '34' in ink. The surface of the canvas has been cleaned and has general light cracking plus a couple of superficial scratches to the sky. The relining is clear from behind and there are traces of glut to the stretcher. The frane is cracked along all four corner joints, as if the painting is slightly too large for the frame - this could be as a result of the re-lining making the stretcher larger.
A faint 4cm wide cross is visible to the sky and this shows up darker under UV light - this is most probably the tear which caused the canvas to be relined. Some scattered overpainting visible under UV.
