Lot 534
Lot Description
A good early 19th century oval painted portrait miniature on ivory. Depicting a young girl with short curly brown hair, in three-quarter profile facing to sinister, dressed in period costume trimmed with lace and ribbons, watercolour on ivory, the reverse with plaited brown hair panel centred by filigree initials EB in cursive script, both sides beneath convex glazing within gold-plated frame and suspension loop, image size 2.9" high x (7.3cm x 5.8cm). The physiognomy of this portrait bears some resemblance to the portrait of Emily Bronte (1818-1848) in the group portrait of the Bronte Sisters by Patrick Branwell Bronte (1817-1848), circa 1834, in the National Portrait Gallery, ref. NPG 1725, which was adapted for the book cover of 'A Life of Emily Bronte' by Edward Chitham.
