Lot Description

An early 19th century inlaid mahogany-cased twin fusee bracket clock. James McCabe, Royal Exchange, No. 3195. Having a 6.5-inch silvered arched dial with Roman chapter ring framed engraved maker's name "James McCabe ROYAL EXCHANGE London 3195", with moon hands, beneath subsidiary Strike/Silent dial, the four-pillar chain-driven twin-fusee movement with anchor escapement, striking on a bell, the rectangular backplate engraved "James McCabe 3195", the case with flat hood centred by glazing, over fluted frieze, canted door with brass spandrels, and brass-strung base, the sides with flush-fitted brass handles over fish-scale fretwork, sold with key, pendulum and winder, 16", (40.5cm) high. A similar clock numbered 3017 was sold by Lyon & Turnbull, Edinburgh, 25th March 2009, lot 133.

Dial - very minor scratch beneath hands (through "London")

Movement good, no alterations, no holes to backplate.

Case - horizontal splits to roof. Case has been repolished. Back door lock is a possible replacement. Small flaw to top of front door by top hinge.
