A good mid 18th century ebonised bracket clock by Joshua Hewlett of Bristol. Having a 7" break-arched dial, the silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and Arabic minutes framing a matted centre with calendar square, within rococo scroll spandrels, the arch with silvered boss engraved "Joshua Hewlett BRISTOL", the five-pillar movement with verge escapement and gut-driven single fusee, the finely-engraved backplate with engraved repeat wheel, striking on two bells via three hammers, with original pendulum, the ogee caddy-top case with leaf-cast handle over break-arch moulding, the sides with arched quatrefoil-pierced fretwork, on block feet, 17.75", (45cm) high excluding handle.

Dial - chapter ring tarnished, otherwise good.
Movement - needs new gut line. Several holes to backplate, mainly left side around repeat wheel.
Case - has a few dints and knocks but appears original. No repeat cord.
