An early Victorian inlaid mahogany cased 8-day painted dial longcase clock with moon phase, anonymous, circa 1840-50. Having a 14" (36cm) break-arch Roman dial with subsidiary seconds dial and terrestrial calendar crescent, within spandrels painted as the Four Continents, beneath an arch with lunar calendar scale, moon phase painted with a ship a cottage and hemispheres painted with a pheasant shooting scene. The knopped four pillar movement with anonymous false-plate striking on a bell. The case with swan neck pediment over cross-banded frieze and acanthus carved baluster columns, over matching trunk columns, flanking triple arched short trunk door, the canted base on bracket feet. 92" (234cm) high

Dial - some wrinkling and flaking to centre, otherwise sound.
Movement - in good order
Case - missing right side moulding to pediment (above swan neck). Later pine hood planks. Minor cracking to hood door frame. some chipping to throat moulding veneer; right side throat moulding missing. Two small losses to trunk. Feet possibly later. slightly pale to base
