Lot Description
Victorian silver mounted glass claret jug, the main glass body with tall, diamond panel cut neck leading to a flute cut bulbous base, the silver collar decorated with a band of foliate motifs and with oblique gadrooning to the rim, the hinged cover with shell thumb piece and the scrolled handle embossed with acanthus leaf. Hallmarked Hirons, Plante & Co., Birmingham 1863. Maximum height including handle measures 11 3/4 inches (30 cm).

Condition Report
Claret jug displays general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. There are some deeper scratches to the glass in places and also some minor nicks and chips, mainly to edges and rims. The silver mount is a little tarnished in places. Some minor nicks/dints in the metal and some slight loss of detail to the decoration in places. Hinged cover in good working order. Main hallmarks slightly rubbed but still clear and legible. Handle and lower circular silver ring neck support hallmarked with the lion standard mark.
