Condition Report
The lot is in good overall condition with scratches and small dents in keeping with general wear. The band has been repaired/resized. The carving has some very small chips to the white layer of the agate and moderate abrasion to the edges. Ring size L 1/2.
Arms possibly for ALLEYNE originally of Chartley, Staffs and for Grantham. Lincs.
The Revd Richard Alleyne DD, Rector of Stowting, Kent inherited lands in East Greenwich from his grandfather. One of his sons helped to colonise Barbados.
John Gay Alleyne, born in 1724, inherited the estates at the age of six and was created a baronet in 1769. It is possible that the original owner of this seal descended from John Gay Alleyne.
