Lot Description
A rare, early 19th century 'Turner's Patent' stone china sucrier and cover. 1800-1806, the domed cover with gilt pine cone finial, the tapering body with moulded ring handles, the whole hand-painted in the Imari palette, painted mark beneath "Turner's-Patent.", 6" wide x 5.5" high, (15cm x 14cm). The Turner Family of Lane End, Staffordshire patented 'a new method, or methods of manufacturing porcelain and earthenware' in 1800, but were bankrupt by 1806 and it is believed that the patent may have passed to Josiah Spode before Charles Mason finally patented the name 'Ironstone' in 1813.

Slight rubbing to gilt finial. A few minor internal scratches but overall excellent condition with good bright decoration and gilding.
