Lot Description

A George III Staffordshire 'scratch blue' Royal commemorative stoneware mug. Circa 1770-80, having a ribbed blue-washed neck over angular handle, the ovoid body centred by a relief-moulded oval bust portrait medallion and initials GR, within five blue-washed sgraffito petals and foliage, 6.25" (16cm) high (af). For a very similar mug, see Hugh Rock, 'Pub Beer Mugs and Glasses', Shire Publications 2006, p.23.
