An unusual late 19th century 'scrimshaw' decorated stick or knobkerry. Having a bulbous hardwood handle, the shaft incised with figures, snakes, a monkey climbing a palm tree, a lady with parasol, a herd of animals, a carriages and prairie caravans, an anchor, a house, a soldier, etc., 27.5", (70cm) long, together with a pair of cold-painted metal terrier bookends, each dog standing on an oak book plinth, 4", (10cm) high, (3).

Condition Report
General wear (dirt and scratches), worst near the tip (no ferrule). Looks to have been reduced from a longer walking stick/cane, as figures near the shaft have been cut in half where the knob handle is attached.
Dog bookends - are not bronze, flaking shows greyish metal beneath. One dog is detached from the book base.
