George Cole, (1810-1883).
A traveller's rest near Windsor Castle,
depicting figures outside a coaching  inn,
with horses watering, a shepherd and flock on the lane,
the castle distant.
Oil on canvas
Signed and dated 1850 lower right
21" x 35", (53.5cm x 89cm),
in later frame

General superficial paint cracking including some 'spider' cracks - has been cleaned some years ago. Small area of possible overpainting to upper right corner. Minor varnish reticulation.
Frame is modern gilt and has some flaking to lower right corner - would benefit from a good period gilt frame.
