Lot Description

George IV silver teapot of compressed melon form, the lobed sides decorated in relief with a continuous band of trailing flowers interspersed with leaves, and engraved with a personal dedication to one side, with further floral and foliate decoration to the spout and scroll handle and a flower finial to the hinged cover, all raised above a circular leaf moulded base leading to four shell feet.  Hallmarked Edward, Edward junior, John & William Barnard, London 1829.  Maximum length of teapot measures 11 inches (28 cm), weight 27.95 ozt (869.4 grams).

Teapot displays general wear, tarnishing and surface marks and scratches in keeping with the age and use.  There are various small dints to the main body and a couple of larger ones, mainly to one side of the engraved inscription on the main body.  Very slight split visible in the seam line to the underside of the handle.  Hinged cover in good working order.  Main hallmarks to the underside are clear and legible, also part hallmarks to the cover and additional maker's mark to the handle, slightly distorted but still legible.
