Lot Description

Early twentieth century green leather travelling case opening to reveal various silver mounted glass bottles and pots, silver mounted ivory paper knife, hip flask, shoe horn, boot pull, clothes brushes, hair brush and mirror. Hallmarked London 1909 to 1914, various makers, all monogrammed GJM. Together with green leather cased notebooks, clock, sewing kit, card case and other miniature items, most initialled GJM.

Case in good to fair condition - leather showing some wear to edges, hinge and opening/fastening mechanisms in working order, inner green fabric showing some damage case base and lid including a tear to base. Pockets and sections for items all showing wear and tear but still hold contents. Hip flask, bottles and pots all in good condition - glass in need of a clean as some containers still containing remnants of original contents, hammered silver lid detail showing general wear (though one bottle has significant dent to silver lid) and in need of good clean, most pieces hallmarked London 1909, maker’s mark G H James & Co, two other containers hallmarked London 1914, maker’s mark Charles Fox & Co Ltd, one rectangular glass container hallmarked London 1911, maker’s mark appears also to be Charles Fox & Co. Hairbrush and two clothes brushes hallmarked London 1909, maker’s mark G H James & Co, hammered silver mounts showing wear and tarnishing. Hand mirror hallmarked London 1912, G H James & Co, silver showing some wear and tarnishing, mirror showing some mottling in keeping with age. Ivory paper knife in good condition, silver showing wear and tarnishing, hallmarked London 1912, G H James & Co, ivory also in good condition. Set of tongs hallmarked as paper knife, in good working order, silver showing general wear and tarnishing. Boot hook and shoe horn not hallmarked - in good general condition, silver as with other pieces. All leather items in good general condition, leather showing some wear and tear as is inner fabrics/casings, all containing original contents or remnants of in case of ink and light box, notebook appear unused, one contains an ivory mounted pencil. Cased set of travel implements including button hook, file and screwdriver are also ivory mounted. Case also contains typed list of contents, belt, red and blue cased notebook, fabric pin cushion, glass cased sewing kit (red glass cracked).
